View the full Halloween experiences page for an overview of everything on offer.

Trick Or Trail

Bring your little witches, wizards and ghouls for a magical outdoor adventure around Alderford Lake. The Trick or Trail winds through the spooky woods for a Halloween experience that is fun without being frightening. It is perfect for younger children and families looking for a gentle start to the Halloween season. As you explore, children hunt for hidden letters to solve the secret word. Solve it correctly and every paying child earns a treat. Along the way, collect what you need to craft your very own wand or broomstick. Fancy dress is encouraged and the more spooktacular the better.

Event details: Dates: 24th October to 1st November 2026 Times: 9am to 4:30pm daily. No time slot needed. Arrive any time. Ages: Best suited to ages 8 and under. Every paying child receives a treat at the end. A gentle, outdoorsy Halloween day out for families who want magic and discovery without the scares.

Spooky Island

Once your children have outgrown Trick or Trail, Spooky Island is the natural next step. This is where Halloween starts to feel properly spooky. Woodland scenes, live characters, pulley bridges and a boat crossing across the lake all combine to deliver a genuine Halloween atmosphere without crossing into horror territory.

Spooky Island runs from 30th October to 1st November 2026 and is designed for ages 8 and above. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult. It is an outdoor experience so come dressed for the weather and for walking through the woods. It delivers real atmosphere and real frights. Just not the kind that follow you home.

Nightmare Island

For older teenagers and adults who want a Halloween experience with no safety net, Nightmare Island is Alderford’s most intense attraction. This is not Spooky Island with the dial turned up slightly. It is a completely different level of experience. Dark woodland, live scare actors, confined spaces and a crossing to a prison island on the lake. The experience is designed to unsettle you from start to finish. Nightmare Island is recommended for ages 16 and over. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

It runs from 30th October to 1st November 2026. Book in advance as this one sells out. If your group includes a mix of ages, pair Nightmare Island for the adults with Spooky Island for older children. Both run on the same dates and are at the same location.
