How Self-Launch Works
Bring your own paddleboard, kayak, or canoe to the lake with a self-launch pass and enjoy time on the water in a way that fits your day.
We are open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, sometimes later in summer. You can arrive whenever suits you during opening hours and stay for as long as you like within those hours.
Available Facilities
Convenient access points and ample parking help make the journey from car to lake edge simple and hassle-free, whether you are arriving with a board, a kayak, or a canoe.
An electric pump is available on site for £3, and changing rooms, toilets, and showers are all within easy reach of the lake so you can get sorted before and after your paddle.

If you are planning to self-launch at Alderford regularly, membership is the sensible next step. It costs £7.50 per year and gives you 20% off each visit, along with a free hot drink in the winter months.
That makes it a straightforward way to get better value from repeat lake sessions without changing the simplicity of the self-launch offer itself.
Paddleboard Lessons
If you have just bought a paddleboard or want a more confident first time on the water, Alderford also offers beginner-friendly paddleboard lessons in a scenic lake setting.
The SUP taster session is a relaxed and fun way to try paddleboarding for the first time, with British Canoeing qualified Paddleboard Instructors showing you the basics and joining you on the lake to guide the session.
