Safety is our highest priority. Alderford Lake is AALA licensed, meaning our activities meet the strict standards required for delivering adventure activities to young people.
We have a full set of risk assessments which can be viewed on request, and we are happy to work with your school trip lead to ensure all necessary paperwork is supplied.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in 9 bell tents, offering a spacious and comfortable area for students to relax after a fun filled day of activities! We also provide teacher accommodation.
Activities that build skills for life
Aquapark
A high-energy water activity designed to build confidence, coordination, and resilience. Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves at their own pace while supporting classmates, helping to develop teamwork and self-belief in a fun, supervised environment.
Raft Building
Students work together to design, build, and test their own raft using barrels, ropes, and wooden poles. This activity promotes communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills while encouraging creative thinking and collaboration.
Kayaking
Kayaking sessions introduce pupils to controlled water movement, balance, and coordination. Instructor-led activities focus on paddling technique, spatial awareness, and teamwork, making it suitable for beginners and those developing water confidence.
Canoeing
Canoeing requires pupils to work in pairs or small groups, developing communication and cooperation. This calm yet engaging activity builds trust, listening skills, and an understanding of shared responsibility on the water.
Giant Paddleboard
Working as one team on a giant paddleboard, pupils must communicate clearly, balance together, and adapt quickly. This activity is excellent for leadership development, trust-building, and encouraging positive group dynamics.
Paddleboarding
Paddleboarding helps pupils develop balance, concentration, and confidence. With instructor guidance, students are supported to challenge themselves while learning to stay calm, focused, and resilient.
Escape Islands
A land-based challenge where pupils solve puzzles and complete tasks under time pressure. Escape Islands develops problem-solving, logical thinking, leadership, and collaboration in a fun, inclusive setting.
Water Safety
An essential session focused on water safety awareness, basic life-saving skills, and understanding risk around open water. This activity links closely with PSHE outcomes and equips pupils with valuable real-world knowledge.

Yes. Our instructor-led sessions are inclusive and adaptable, allowing pupils of different abilities to participate safely and confidently. Please discuss specific needs with us during booking.
Is Alderford Lake fully licensed and insured?
Yes. Alderford Lake is AALA licensed, meaning all activities meet strict safety and operational standards for delivering adventure activities to young people.
What safety equipment is provided?
All required safety equipment, including wetsuits and buoyancy aids, is included at no extra cost. Our instructors ensure equipment is correctly fitted before each session.
What supervision is required from teachers?
We require a 1:10 teacher-to-student ratio. Teachers are not charged for attending and are welcome to observe or support during sessions.
Do you offer residential school trips?
Yes. We offer on-site accommodation in spacious bell tents, with separate accommodation for teachers. Residential options range from one to four nights.
