Update Thursday 9th July
The lake remains closed for tomorrow, but we have some encouraging news.
The water sample that was taken on Tuesday has now been analysed, and the results indicate low levels of algae, way below those deemed safe for swimming.
However, before reopening, we’ll be carrying out one final water test tomorrow to make sure the water remains safe. With a busy weekend ahead, we want to be absolutely certain before welcoming everyone back. Your safety will always be our top priority.
If tomorrow’s results also come back clear, we’re expecting to reopen the lake this weekend.
We’ll confirm this officially tomorrow afternoon as soon as we receive the latest test results.
We know this may be frustrating for those of you who have already changed your plans, and we completely understand. The improvement in the water quality has happened much more quickly than we expected, both visually and in the test results.
However, we felt it was important to communicate with you as early as possible so that everyone had the opportunity to make alternative arrangements, rather than waiting and risking a last-minute cancellation.
If we receive the all-clear tomorrow afternoon, we’ll reopen online bookings immediately so you can book your swims and activities ahead of the weekend.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we’ve been monitoring the lake so closely. We’re keeping everything crossed that we’ll be able to welcome you back this weekend.

The hire of boats etc is a bit pricey, but once in the water, it’s a great place to teach younger kids how to row in a canoe or kayak, food on site (chips, burgers etc) as well as cheeky lakeside drinks.
The water was lovely and clean, enough to ‘fall out the boat’ and have a good swim!
People who go regularly were lovely and happy to talk to new people and speak highly of this place.
Would strongly recommend and cannot wait for our next trip!’
We visited for Alderfest, which was a fantastic family festival. It was well organised, with plenty of toilets, eateries & bars. You could use the lake during the day too, making it a fantastic full day & night out.

We went with a group of Uni friends as part of our annual reunion, with their children and partners (age range 10-59) and we had a fantastic time!
From entry, through to sorting wetsuits, and all the support from the lifeguards during the session (even pulling a beached whale or two out of the ninja jump lol)
Great value for money, and we all had a great time. Thank you Alderford for a very memorable afternoon.

Always wanted to try my hand at paddle boarding but never had the opportunity. Finally took the plunge and saw that Alderford Lake gave taster sessions. Booked a place and it was the best thing I did. Kicking myself that it took so long to book! The instructors were lovely, put everyone at ease and helped whenever you needed it. They gave clear instructions and guidelines and before long we were all standing up. I was clearly too ‘cocky’ at this point looked down and ultimately fell in. The instructor was there to help and guide me back up onto my board and gave a few hints to keep from falling off again. There were little games to build your confidence up too. The time went quickly but it gave me a desire to keep paddle boarding up, to the extent that I booked another taster session for the following week to build my confidence up, before I go and buy my own board.
Overall a fantastic morning paddle boarding and had the rest of the day to explore the lake. Worth every penny.
We ventured out on a Sunday to go and try the roast dinner.I would highly recommend the meal there was a choice of Turkey,Beef and a vegetarian option.The food was piping hot and very generous portions.Which was served by very helpful and pleasant staff.will definitely be going again.Highly recommended.

Service was prompt with piping hot food.
Very reasonably priced for excellent quality.

Such a wonderful place, with well organised and exciting events. The bonfire night is amazing, and in recent years the stalls and food venues really add to the experience (never mind seeing the fireworks over the water). The Santa Experience is so well thought out and really adds to the magic and memories of Christmas, the boat ride to the island is really what separates it from any similar experience in Shropshire -but the whole team put their all in and make it magical! All events are fun, memorable and well worth the money and the team are amazing!
We took our toddler on the Christmas Island Experience today and it was far and above what we all expected. Absolutely magical from start to finish and well worth every penny. I think the grown ups enjoyed it just as much as our little one! Thank you to all the elves and Father Christmas for working hard to make it so special.

We had an amazing time at the ice bar yesterday. Would highly recommend it is something completely different. We had to cancel at late notice before Christmas because of a parent being admitted to hospital and they very kindly changed to booking without charging us again we were very grateful and a lovely gesture thank you
An excellent little walk with children’s play equipment scattered around. Really enjoyed our afternoon here with a 10 year old, 4 year old and the dog. Not tried any water activities but after seeing them today, we definitely will plan to do so in the future

After recent storm damage to our little school, we can’t thank Rob, Alice and the whole of the team at Alderford Lake enough.
Our children struggle with change due to their individual needs and a need for structure, routine and predictability, so thank you all for allowing us to base ourselves on site this week and next week, and for allowing us to deliver an outdoor learning curriculum at Alderford, without questions or hesitation.
We have been welcomed and accommodated, and we’re humbled by your kindness, during such an unexpected situation to find ourselves in.
Alderford is a true example of community inclusion and partnership working and we are grateful for the generosity being shown to us.

Our first visit. Very impressed with the cafe, farm shop, and facilities round the lake. A family could easily spend a whole day there, and many obviously were!
A lovely easy walk round the lake which will be equally nice whatever the season.
