From Field to Fork

We are lucky to have some incredible local companies around us. Rob has always wanted to expand and have a Farm shop at Alderford to showcase the very best Whitchurch and beyond has to offer.

We sat down with Rosie, our Farm shop Manager to find out a bit more about the farm shop and what you can find there.

Rosie – tell us about the Farm Shop & how you came to Manage it?

The Farm shop opened in December 2020, I was working in the Lakeside Kitchen beforehand so I was delighted to be part of the project and help bring our farm shop to life.  It all happened really quickly but it is brilliant to be able to highlight the best of the small local businesses.

How do you decide which suppliers to use?

We ran Sunday Markets through 2020 and met some fantastic food producers. This meant that we already knew some of our local suppliers really well such as Pen-y-Lan Pork or Trevor Fowells Butchers.  We’ve used Neil France from Wem for our fresh fruit and vegetables in the Lakeside Kitchen for years so we knew where to get the freshest produce from. 

The best thing about keeping the farm shop local is that everything is fresh and seasonal. At the moment we have delicious Strawberries, Raspberries and Blueberries from Neil, as well as fresh vegetables delivered daily. A lot of these ingredients also go into making the delicious tarts on offer – a  favourite for me at the moment is a goat’s cheese, fig and walnut tart, it’s absolutely delicious. I am delighted to have Lynn creating our delicious Alderford Bakes each week.

Alongside all of the delicious food that we have we also have some great local beers, spirits and wine and we also have some gorgeous plants as well.
