What Is Parkrun?

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5K event held in beautiful locations around the world. It’s not a race – it’s your run, your pace, your way. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking a leisurely walk with friends, or cheering from the sidelines, you’re part of the community.

Our Course

Start Area

The run begins in the small field next to the cafe, just 100 metres from the main building. There’s plenty of space to warm up, and the friendly briefing by the Run Director helps everyone feel welcome – whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth.

The Route

From the start, the course leads runners out through a gate and past the cafe before turning left into the large open field. Here, you’ll follow the outer perimeter, taking in wide views of the countryside and lake beyond. This section is open and grassy, giving runners space to spread out.

After a full clockwise loop of the farthest field, the route heads back along the edge of the course toward the main gate and transitions to a lakeside path, winding its way around the shoreline. This is one of the most scenic parts of the course – expect stunning views over the water, especially on a clear morning.

The route then takes you into the woodland section, which adds a change in terrain and atmosphere. Runners pass beneath a canopy of trees with soft trails underfoot, a refreshing contrast to the open grassland. Please note that this area may have some uneven ground and exposed roots, especially after wet weather, so watch your footing.

Exiting the woodland, you’ll turn left into the small field again, where you complete a clockwise loop around its boundary. This is your halfway point.

You’ll then head out to repeat the full circuit – field, lakeside, woods, and back – before finishing near where you started in the small field.

Surface & Conditions

  • Mostly grass underfoot, with short trail sections through the woods
  • Flat course overall, with only gentle undulations
  • Some areas may be soft or muddy during wet weather, so trail shoes are recommended when conditions are damp
  • Wide paths in most areas to support overtaking and social running

Suitability

  • Great for beginners, improvers, and experienced runners alike
  • Suitable for buggy runners (with an all-terrain buggy) and walkers
  • Unfortunately, due to the terrain and narrow woodland paths, the course is not currently suitable for standard wheelchairs

This course blends natural beauty with a friendly atmosphere, offering both a relaxed and rewarding Parkrun experience.

Facilities

  • Toilets: Available in the cafe and also near the Aquapark.
  • Parking: Free for up to 3 hours – please check signage on arrival.

After your 5K, why not treat yourself to a drink or breakfast from the Alderford Lakeside Kitchen? It’s a great way to catch up with friends, meet fellow runners, or just enjoy the view.
